The Bulletin of the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology ( BIFAO ) covers all fields of Egyptology since its first publication in 1901. The studies published there, whose chronological area extends from predynastic Egypt to the Byzantine period, illustrate the state of current research in the fields of archaeology, epigraphy, lexicography, iconography, religion and philology.
Among the 15 contributions that make up BIFAO 121, we should mention the preliminary report of the archaeological work carried out by the University of Tübingen in Athribis, which led to the discovery, in a midden area, of thousands of texts in Demotic, Greek, hierolyphic, hieratic, Coptic and Arabic; a complete study of the black coffins with yellow decoration from the New Kingdom, rediscovered in the stores of Deir el-Medina; the translation, accompanied by a detailed commentary, of P.Tor.Botti 34 A, 34 B+C, 35, 36 and 40; a study on the Book of the Twelve Caverns in the tomb of Petorisis, and another on the meaning of the words qbḥw and qbḥw nṯrw in the Book of Nut. A summary essay on the evolution of the game of Senet during the 1st millennium is also proposed based on an unpublished two-sided game board, and a curved naos, also unpublished, enriches the documentary corpus concerning Prince Khaemouaset, by providing new information on his career. Two studies focus specifically on stone: one on the use of Memphite limestone in the architecture of the temple of Medamoud, the other on the lithic tools used to work stone, in particular calcite, in the early periods (Old and Middle Kingdom).
