This is the catalog of the eponymous exhibition at the Hôtel des Arts du Var, in Toulon, from October 12, 2019 to February 23, 2020. The book, like the exhibition, focuses on three periods. First, the 1960s and modernity, a sign of progress, whose elements of art and design can be found in Hergé's Tintin, Edar P. Jacobs's Black and Mortimer, or Franquin's Spirou and Fantasio. Then, the 1980s and nostalgic modernity, with Druillet on one side depicting the violence of society and Chaland or Loustal on the other, taking refuge in the comfort of the sixties. Finally, the 2000s and post-modernity with Schuiten or Enki Bilal who, echoing science fiction novels, depict a disillusioned world.
