Born in 1965, about a hundred kilometers from the former imperial porcelain factories of Jingdezhen (China), Bai Ming is a multifaceted visual artist. A professor and lecturer, he is the director of the ceramics department at the Academy of Art and Design of Qinghua University in Beijing, and of the Shangyu Celadon International Contemporary Ceramic Art Center. He is also, and above all, the head of two workshops, where he boldly blends technical traditions and ancestral practices with international contemporary art. His work on ceramics, painting, and lacquer, with its finesse, revitalizes Chinese porcelain and frees it from its archaic forms. His creations have been awarded the greatest Chinese prizes and recognized by collectors worldwide.
