To mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Baccarat factory, the Petit Palais continues its exploration of the splendor of the Universal Exhibitions by welcoming to its Grandes Galeries the astonishing testimonies of the virtuosity of crystal artists. An exceptional selection of more than three hundred historic pieces from the famous Lorraine factory will be complemented by prestigious loans from the Musée d'Orsay, the Louvre, the Arts Décoratifs, the Cité de la Céramique, the Arts et Métiers, the Château de Compiègne, and the museums of Nancy. Baccarat has not had a retrospective in France since the 1964 exhibition at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. In keeping with the Petit Palais building erected for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, the focus will be on Baccarat's creations presented at the major Parisian exhibitions from 1823 to 1937. Numerous previously unpublished drawings and documents will help to trace the genesis of the pieces on display, reveal their sources of inspiration and reintegrate them into the taste of an era.
