This catalog brings together a series of contributions from recognized specialists on climate, glaciers, glacial archaeology in the Alps, and its emblematic discoveries. It is based on an exhibition presented at the Musée-Château d'Annecy from June to October 2022, itself adapted from the exhibition Mémoire de glace – Vestiges en péril (Valais History Museum 2018-2019). Bringing together more than fifteen lenders (museums, archaeological services, the State, associations and individuals), it reveals a panorama of 8,000 years of Alpine history through a selection of archaeological objects ranging from Prehistory to the industrial era: bows and arrows, tools, travel equipment, shoes, clothing, etc. Discovered by chance by mountain users or during archaeological research, they show both the human imprint left in these areas far from civilization and the fragility of this environment today threatened by global warming.
