The contributions gathered in this volume are the result of research and collective reflection developed within the framework of the UMR 8164 Halma in Lille around Greek and Roman urban planning. The desire of the two leaders was to approach this problem in an ambivalent way, that is to say, to a controlled use that are domestic uses (heating, lighting, cooking), religious (ceremonies, sacrifices) and industrial (metallurgy, ceramics, etc.) responds a destructive element that are accidental or deliberate fires by relying on examples covering the entire ancient world from the Mediterranean East to the north of Gaul in the Greco-Roman eras.
