Originally from Lugano, Anna Vivante spent her youth in Milan and then in Rome, where she earned her degree in Ancient Near Eastern Art and Archaeology. She then led excavations in Turkey and Syria for around ten years. In 1981, Anna began photographing the Near East. Her first black and white photographs were published in Nuovi argomenti 44 in 1992. Numerous group exhibitions in Paris followed, before a solo exhibition entitled Vanitas in 2007 at the New York Graduate Center.
In 2010, the Galerie Italienne in Paris presented her exhibition Deserted Kingdoms with Domes. In 2011, Anna was the guest of the Italian Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale. That same year, she exhibited Architectural Skies at the Galerie Italienne in Paris before presenting this series the following year at the Galleria San Fedele in Milan. In 2017, Anna participated in the Deauville Festival of Photographic Creations with the exhibition Sea Leaves.
That same year, she presented a body of garden photographs at the Atelier Visconti in Paris. Other events that have hosted the artist's photographs include Fiera Macro Testaccio in Rome, Arte Fiera Art First in Bologna, and Wopart in Lugano.
