Alberto Giacometti's adherence to Surrealism lasted barely five years (1930-1935), during which time his explorations of eroticism, play, and dreamlike images distinguished him as one of the movement's most innovative artists. He forged strong bonds with his fellow artists and intellectuals, which he continued long after distancing himself from the group. The result of research in Giacometti's personal archives and those of Breton, this exhibition is a collaboration with the Association Atelier André Breton and the Centre Pompidou, Musée national d'art moderne. The exhibition highlights the strong friendship between Giacometti and Breton, as well as his relationships with the Surrealist artists and intellectuals to whom he was closest. Hans Arp, Claude Cahun, Leonora Carrington, Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Meret Oppenheim, André Masson, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Yves Tanguy, but also René Crevel, Lise Deharme, Paul Éluard, Georges Hugnet, Jacqueline Lamba, Tristan Tzara are thus represented.
