In 1811, archaeologist Aubin-Louis Millin set off for Italy, commissioned by the imperial authorities to inspect the monuments of the peninsula, now under French rule. His journey took him to Calabria, where only a handful of visitors had previously ventured. He embarked on this adventure with the German painter Franz-Ludwig Catel, whom he commissioned to draw the landscapes he crossed and the monuments he visited. This box set presents Millin's travel notes, published here for the first time, and the approximately 160 drawings produced by Catel throughout the expedition.
