For this special issue, 303 becomes 172: it is dedicated to the Loire Valley, a world heritage site that crosses the departments of Loiret (45), Loir-et-Cher (41), Indre-et-Loire (37) and Maine-et-Loire (49). UNESCO registration was obtained in 2000. Its significance and the commitments it entails must always be remembered. A subtle composition combining water, light, stone, vines, history and gardens, this cultural landscape is also a place of convergence for the fields of planning, development, knowledge, cultural action, and heritage promotion. With the benefit of hindsight of ten years, what do we know that is new? What actions have been taken? How have the projects been structured? What are the directions for the near future? It is to this set of questions, which constitute a multidisciplinary panorama, that this special issue provides elements of response.
