In 1998, the Musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac inherited the collections of the National Museum of African and Oceanic Arts and the ethnographic collections of the Musée de l'Homme, comprising nearly 300,000 objects. Since then, it has developed a rich acquisitions policy of nearly 70,000 pieces and photographs. The exhibition and its catalog invite the public to go behind the scenes of a collection. It is an opportunity to understand the stages, processes, and multiple directions of these acquisitions, which open onto the future: expanding this collection is indeed part of a global history of art where historical aspects resonate with contemporary issues.
